Abyssinian

Abyssinians are a beautiful type of breed. Thought to have been orignated in Ethiopia, they are now one of the most popular domestic shorthair breeds in the USA.

Appearance

Abyssinan kittens are born with dark coats which will lighten as the grow older. An adult has a sliky coat to the touch. Abyssinians have a noticeabley darker tip of the tail, back of hind legs, and pads of paws. They also have an M-shaped making on their forehead. They come in a variety of colors: Ruddy, Chocolate, Cinnamon, Blue, Lilac, Fawn, Blue Cream, Cream, and Red.

Personality

Abyssinians are intelligent, playful, and like to have their way. They are outgoing and can be very quiet cats with a soft voice. Some Abyssinians are timid and shy if shown to strangers. They love attention from their owners, however.

Health

The Abyssinian can be prone to Gingivitis. Familial renal amyloidosis or AA amyloidosis, which is a kidney disorder. They can suffer from blindness due to the rdAc gene.
