Job Hunting Resources
Here's a collection of some job hunting resources that I've found over
the past couple of years. This list is not meant to be exhaustive.
I've cached the files that I didn't create to ensure that they don't
go away.
- General advice:
-
Where to find jobs. Unfortunately the sites that I knew of are password
protected. But I have a snapshot that should get you started. :)
- a listing of sites that advertise
   jobs
- listing of individual places that don't
offer PhDs and various things about them (including where to look for
   ads)
- I put together a spreadsheet with all
sorts of information about PhD granting schools (Excel, html), including
their URLs, where I found their advertisement, etc. I've taken out
all of the personal data (e.g., if I had applied and what the
status was) and attached a generic version. It's starts with the
108 PhD granting computer science departments from the Taulbee 1993
survey. They're sorted by quality rating (the latest version
available, unfortunately). Places that weren't rated but either
gained a PhD program or were excluded because they were in Canada
are at the end. You'll need to get new ad information, but this at
least will give you an idea of where to look, and also will give
you some notion of what they request.

- Other resources:
One other thing
that's helpful is to read over people's application packets. If you
know of people who graduated in the past couple of years, you can
   try the Internet archive ,
and chances are good that they had their job search stuff on there
   somewhere, and it's been archived.
