I've been very happy with Adria Import Car Service, 604-872-8512, at 794 E.Broadway
(at Fraser). This is a small, family-run shop (Anton Roza seems to be less active,
with his son Mark Roza now the main man) that seems mainly to work on older European
cars. They kept my 87 jetta running for years, and seem to be doing OK on my 2000 A4.
Mark also saved my bacon on a used car purchase when he discovered a corroded wiring
harness on a car I was considering. They're very knowledgeable, and friendly if a
bit brusque, but this isn't the sort of place that washes your car for you or serves
espressos. It's also convenient to the bus to/from campus. Oh yeah, they're open
on Saturdays, too.
I used to be happy with Continental Repairs at 1706 W 4th (at Pine). The owner
Joe Skibbe is a former VW factory mechanic and seemed to know his stuff and do
good work, but after several minorly botched jobs (various broken plastic bits),
I gave up.
I've heard good things about The Garage at 4066 Macdonald (near King Ed), but never
tried them.
If you're looking for VW/Audi parts, check out VM Autohaus
http://www.vmautohaus.com
4407 Juneau Street in Burnaby. Good guys, ordered weird VW parts for me for less than
the dealer.
I'm pretty wiki-clueless, so hopefully I'm not botching this too badly...
