Cell Phone info
Fido does not work inside the CS building!
Rogers does, and they have a store in the campus village marketplace.
I don't know about Telus or Mobility.
Bring your passport and a major credit card when applying!
Some plans give discounts if you can prove you're a UBC employee.
(Information from Kevin Murphy)
I use Telus, it works in my office (3rd floor of CS1).
I've switched to Virgin Mobile. (I think they resell Sprint PCS?)
It works fine from my office (3rd floor old building, south exposure)
and I've generally had no problems around town. If you're an
emergency-use-only cell phone person, they're a good pre-paid plan.

I use Rogers, as they use the GSM standard. That means your cell phone will work in Europe and most other countries if you get a 3 or 4 band GSM phone (many now have this feature). You may still have to call Rogers so that they set up your phone for roaming, but this only needs to be done once and there is no extra charge. The roaming calls themselves are very expensive (about $1/minute), so keep them short!
