1 All lab open house during first week orientation
Date: Tuesday, Sept. 6
Time: 2 pm - ~5 pm (note: BBQ in the Dempster lane will start at ~5 pm)
Description: Labs will be open for new grads (and others) to meet & mingle with other computer science students, faculty, and staff in the lab environments. The hope is that new grads. will mingle freely in and out of various labs. This is intended to be much more informal than in previous years (i.e., no talks, ppt, etc.) -- but these might be good inclusions for the individual lab sessions planned for the Fall (see below).
Our dept. occupies space in two buildings located at 2366 Main Mall. Both buildings are called ICICS/CS.

A series of weekly open sessions from Oct. 2005 - Dec. 2005. The goal is to have each lab organize a ~2 hour open session where current students, faculty, and staff of the particular lab can demo & chat about their research with other students, faculty, and staff. Each lab will choose a lead person to organize the orientation for their lab (see calendar).
Tuesday, Oct. 18; 12 pm - 2 pm
The proposed format is similar to prev. years:
Time | Description |
---|---|
12:00 - 1:00 pm | Faculty summary talks (5 min each) in X736 (Boardroom) |
1:00 - 1:55 pm | Demo sessions |
a) Faculty Talks: Each faculty member gives a 5 min overview of their research and their grad. students in X736.
Time | Faculty |
---|---|
12:05 | Ron Rensink |
12:10 | Joanna McGrenere (Karyn Moffat Speaking) |
12:15 | Wolfgang Heidrich |
12:20 | Michiel van de Panne |
12:25 | Kelly Booth |
12:30 | Tamara Munzner |
12:35 | Karon MacLean |
12:40 | Alla Sheffer |
12:45 | Robert Bridson |
b) Demo Sessions: Freeform demo sessions from 1:00 - 1:55 pm in...
A list of demos and map will be posted in X736. In each room, many demos will be run concurrently so visitors can spend as little or as much time as they wish at each demo.
