There is a view, which I shall call the reciprocity thesis, that only members of `the same moral community" can have rights. 
This is narrowly interpreted when the same moral community is a community of interacting individuals whose obligations to each other are thought to <tag "515648">derive</> from a social contract or to represent the outcome of a fair bargaining process or if morality is conceived of in some other way as a system for the mutual advantage of all members of the community.
