Temporal and Real Time Databases

For today's class, we will be reading the following papers:

Christian S. Jensen and Richard T. Snodgrass, "Temporal Data Management" IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering 11(1):3644, January/February 1999. (pdf)
Ralf Harmut Guting, "An Introduction to Spatial Database Systems" VLDB Journal 3:357-399, 1994.

We are reading these papers because they are good surveys of temporal and spatial databases (as requested by members of the class). Note that the key points that I want you to understand are what are some of the issues in temporal and spatial databases that makes them interesting/different/difficult.
