Adaptive Execution
For today's class, we will be reading two papers:
- Zachary G. Ives, Daniela Florescu, Marc Friedman, Alon Y. Levy,
Daniel S. Weld: An Adaptive
Query Execution System for Data Integration. SIGMOD Conference
1999: 299-310. We are reading this paper
because it shows a good example of how data integration creates new
difficulties for query optimization and execution.
-
Eddies: Continuously Adaptive
Query Processing; Avnur and Hellerstein, SIGMOD 2000. We are
reading this paper because it picks up some of the themes in
processing queries in data integration and uses them back in
different settings, like parallel and distributed processing. Since
processors are becoming more parallel, this scenario will become
increasingly more relevant.
