The Role of Database Theory

For today's class, we will be reading paper:

Database metatheory: asking the big queries, Christos Papadimitriou, PODS 95. We are reading this paper because it provides a great discussion on the role of theory in databases (and computer science in general)

If you don't know what a database theory paper looks like, you may find this report on PODS 2021 to give you a helpful overview of what kinds of things get covered in database theory. Don't read it in huge detail, but you can see the kinds of things that are being discussed.
