For today's class, we will be reading two papers:
- Charles Lamb, Gordon Landis, Jack A. Orenstein, Daniel Weinreb. The ObjectStore Database
System. Commun. ACM, 34(10), 1991, 50-63. We are reading this
paper because it's a good representation of a specific OO db. FYI, the figure
that describes warm cache vs. cold cache results has the bars switched; the
warm cache results are the faster ones.
- M.J. Carey, D.J DeWitt.
Of Objects and Databases: A Decade of
Turmoil VLDB 1996. We are reading this paper
because it's a good overview of what happened with objects in databases. It's
a paper that was written in response to the authors' having one a 10 year test
of time paper award, hence the fact that it's not a "regular" paper.
