Feedback Session Instructions
In this week's milestone, you'll be improving your shiny app from Milestone 2 after an in-lab peer-review feedback session.
We'll run two feedback sessions, 40 minutes each. Within each, you'll do two cycles of 20 minutes each: one where you give feedback, and another where you receive feedback. Each time, you'll be paired with a different peer. So, you'll be doing four cycles. You'll be assigned partners randomly.
Each cycle has three components to it:
- Fly-on-the-wall, 8 min: The reviewer explores the creator's shiny app without any input from the creator, while the creator watches. The reviewer should speak their thought process -- "think out loud", but the creator can't talk, and can't even gesture!
- Informed-run, 6 min: The reviewer continues to explore the creator's app, but this time with input from the creator.
- Written feedback, 6 min: The reviewer writes feedback (to place in Exercise 1 of the assignment).
Tips on giving feedback:
Your feedback only needs to be a "brain dump" (doesn't need polishing). But it should still be thoughtful and useful. Here are some tips on giving feedback:
- State what's good about the work. Why is it good? State what needs improvement. Why does it need improvement? But never charge those things with emotion. Be objective.
- Feedback should offer suggestions on how to improve the app in addition to noting weaknesses of the current version.
- There's always something that can be said! It's okay to give feedback about the strong parts of the app, however an app can always be improved.
