Abstract
If television and movies are any indication, zipping through the galaxy on interstellar craft should just be a matter of spinning up the FTL drive by hitting it with a wrench. At the very least, we should be able to travel through time by putting a flux capacitor on a Delorian. What about teleporting to France for a nice day trip? Well sadly, we’re not there yet. In this out-of-this world UDLS, I’ll look at some of the challenges we are faced with when trying to match science fiction with science fact, and what humanity is doing to make it happen. I’ll give you a hint: our universe is a big jerk.
