Abstract
Optimistically, this talk will change the way you view the environment we live in, and give you new insights into the way cities work and how they should be designed and governed. Realistically, it’ll just be a misrepresentation the views expressed by Jane Jacobs in The Death and Life of Great American Cities (published in the early sixties, when city folk still had children rather than Playstations). Topics to be covered include: why SimCity gets it all wrong, Manhattanism vs. Vancouverism, and the important role that beer plays in keeping the streets safe from crime.
