JANN 2014: to be updated (take from 344)
Human-subject experimentation in 543 is
governed by the UBC cs444/544/543 (CS HCI Courses) ethics protocol, reference
B03-0490. This approval is governed by UBC's Behavioral Research Ethics Board (BREB).
The documents listed below are required
reading for all 543 students PRIOR TO ANY SUBJECT
CONTACT, and adherence to these protocols is mandatory, regardless of whether your team eventually uses the CS HCI courses approval or MacLean's own research approval. You will decide which approval is more appropriate for your team after reading them, and contact the instructor ASAP with your proposed choice.
You might need to use MacLean's protocol (a little more effort for both you and the instructor) if:
- You need a broader sample pool than friends, family, 543 classmates
- You need to compensate subjects (for performance motivation or to achieve a larger pool)
- You need to perform activities which aren't covered by the CS HCI methods section.
