What is the Masters of Digital Media (MDM) Program?

The Masters of Digital Media (MDM) Program is an innovative, full-time professional Master’s degree in entertainment technology and digital media that welcomed its first class in September 2007. With input from academia and industry, the MDM Program's challenging curriculum is uniquely designed to transition students from diverse backgrounds into new and expanding digital media markets and opportunities. During the 16-month program and 4-month internship, graduates develop the professional skills required to be effective creators, practitioners and senior managers in the digital media industry.

Are there scholarships available?

The MDM program offers multiple scholarships. There are two scholarships available specifically for the top applicants with a Computer Science background valued at $15,000 and $10,000. In addition, these successful applicants will also receive free on-campus housing at MDM's brand new facility that is scheduled to open in September 2012.

How is the MDM different from other Masters Programs?

The MDM is a highly applied degree. It is non-thesis based and is appropriate for students who seek to enter the digital media industry. 98% of student workload is team-based with a focus on perfecting the process of executing a digital media project. The MDM’s core components involve working with real-life clients for 14-week production cycles each semester.

What types of students does the MDM program look for?

The MDM program accepts candidates from all disciplines. However, the majority of students hold undergraduate degrees in the Sciences, New Media and the Arts. A variety come from Business Administration, Architecture, Broadcasting and Cognitive Sciences.

Do I have to be artistic or creative to be eligible for this program?

You do not need to have an Art or Design background to apply to the program. Many students from technical backgrounds (such as Computer Science) either want to stay on the technical side of Digital Media (which is what many of our graduates continued to do), or want to be involved in the creative process. Having an MDM will give you a strong foot in the door if you want to switch to the creative/design aspects of the digital media industry.

Important News: The MDM program is located in Vancouver, British Columbia and is scheduled to complete the construction of its brand-new facility in September 2012.
