TITLE:  Xen Security Mistakes (and what we do next)
SPEAKER:
Tim Deegan, Principal Software Engineer at Citrix Systems

HOST:
Andy Warfield

ABSTRACT:

Xen is a mature commodity virtualisation platform, used in large enterprises and cloud computing.  It has a good security record but like any large piece of system software it has had security vulnerabilities. In this talk I will discuss some of the past security failures in the xen hypervisor, and some of the things we plan to do to avoid and mitigate the next ones.

BIO:

Tim Deegan is a principal software engineer at Citrix Systems, where he works in the core hypervisor group.

Tim finished his Ph.D. at the University of Cambridge under the supervision of Jon Crowcroft in 2006.  His thesis explored how the Internet's domain name service (DNS) might be scaled in a more centralized model while still preserving (and perhaps improving) properties relating to security and delegated administration.  The thesis was informed through Tim's experience as the administrator of Ireland's top-level domain (the .ie TLD), prior to his doctoral tenure.
