Virtual Welcome

First-ever Virtual Welcome and Orientation

As we begin a new semester of learning online, the Computer Science department is committed to providing as many services and tools as we can to ensure our students have rich and fulfilling experiences.

In past years on the first day of school, the annual Imagine UBC orientation was held campus-wide, to welcome and orient new and returning students. We have typically hosted our open house in the atrium of the ICICS building.

But of course, this year things are very different.

For the first time since the event started in 1997, it will be streamed online through CampusBase. The event replaces all undergraduate classes on September 8 (except those that start at 5:00 p.m. or later and meet only once per week). All undergraduate Computer Science majors are invited to join us at the Virtual Main Event. You’ll find out about CS programs (both academic and extracurricular) and CS-related clubs.

The Main Event will be held live from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. PDT on September 8.

The Computer Science department will be hosting live video chats via Zoom on that day, from 5:45 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. You can find the Computer Science page under theFaculty Fair zone.

You’ll be able tomeet with academic advisors and learn about the programs we offer. You can find out about the Computer Science Student Society (CSSS), CS department special career programming and events, the Science Co-op program, and other student activities, including UBC Women in Computer Science and Queer Coded.

Problems? Check the Main Event page that shows you how to login and explains what to do if you have technical problems.

You're welcome to explore the booth information at your own pace as of September 2, 2020. We can’t wait to welcome you, and we look forward to meeting you in person hopefully one day soon.
