Imagine Day gathering

Imagine Day 2024

Whether you are returning to UBC Computer Science, or joining us for the very first time, WELCOME!

On Tuesday, September 3, join thousands of UBC students and hundreds of volunteers for Imagine Day, the orientation event that celebrates the start of the academic year. For most students, Imagine UBC replaces the first day of classes.

We also invite all undergraduates to attend our Computer Science Undergrad Open House, to be held in the department’s atrium (first floor) on the first day of classes.

Here's the schedule:

10:45 AM -  Open House begins, ICICS/CS Atrium

Meet with academic advisors to learn all about the programs we offer, both academic and extracurricular, as well as about the Science Co-op program, tri-mentoring program, and volunteer opportunities. Learn about the Computer Science Student Society (CSSS), career programming and events, as well as competitive programming teams.

11:00 AM - BBQ hosted by CSSS, outside ICICS/CS Building

12:00 PM – Welcome speech by co-Head Margo Seltzer, ICICS/CS Atrium

12:30 PM – Orientation for BCS students, DMP 110

1:00 PM – Orientation for transfer students, DMP 301

Events for grad students

The department (with support from the Computer Science Graduate Student Association (CSGSA) has also arranged an Orientation Day for Grads on September 3 for incoming CS grad students, including a breakfast, scavenger hunt, 'CS Idol' show, awards information and social events. Learn about the different programs available, co-op option, groups and courses, and chat with other students and faculty.

We also encourage you to explore the Wellbeing resources available to you within the department, by visiting https://www.cs.ubc.ca/health-wellness. It’s important to know where and how to reach out for help, should you need it during the year.

And if you have questions, just ask! We are all here to help make this an awesome year as we explore the dynamic world of computer science together.

See you on September 3!
